The Float Block is a training tool for finger strength workouts that offers many advantages over traditional training edges used in training for climbing.
Designed and manufactured locally on the West Coast of BC, The Float Block is made from a sustainably sourced, Canadian grown Maple which is long lasting and hardwearing while also providing an excellent surface that is grippy without wearing out the skin.
With 20mm deep edges and overall measurements of: 135mm x 75mm x 30mm, The Float Block is the perfect sized portable hangboard to bring anywhere, be it the gym or outdoors. With 3 major grip types (stepped edge, flat edge and pinch block) accessible in such a small package, The Float block will quickly become the go to tool in your bag.
Why choose The Float Block (The Float Block vs Tension - The Block and other flat edge portable hangboards)
Function: This block, with its stepped 20mm deep edge, is designed to load all fingers evenly, when in a half crimp position. This creates a better training stimulus than a flat edge, as the pinky is no longer forced into a drag due to its length. This pinky engagement means the flexor muscles in the forearm are more engaged when pulling on The Float Block, resulting in more effective training and hopefully floating your proj!
Lighter and more portable than many of the other market offerings, while also incorporating as much, or more functionality for fingerstrength and pinch block style training.
Further advantages:
It's a pinch block! Pinching is an active grip that forces the forearm to contract and engage in a different way to crimping. There is growing evidence and popularity that support pinch blocks and pinch strength training is an important part of training for climbing. The Float block is a great width for most hands to be held sideways in a pinch grip.
It still has a flat 20mm edge. If you want the stepped unlevel edge, but aren't keen to leave flat edge training behind, The Float block has you covered. It can be flipped for either stepped or flat edge.
The design aids in preventing skin tearing issues that can be caused by flat edge blocks. If you've ever suffered skin tear out, especially on your pinkies at the DIP joint, this could be your solution.
The stepped edge can also mitigate overloading issues in the middle two fingers, which often bear the brunt of the force, when loading on a flat edge. Having a more even loading pattern during training aims to decrease the risk of injuries such as pulley injuries.
The heightened sensory feedback from the stepped edges of the float block aims to increase mind muscle connection. Being able to feel every finger individually brings a new sensation to training. While this may feel unfamiliar at first, neuromuscular recruitment is becoming a core part of our understanding of how to make meaningful progress in training adaptions.
Use with the Tindeq Progressor is seamless, lightweight and compact with The Float Block, simply clip it into your resistance system and start pulling. There are many advantages to finger strength training with a Tindeq or other dynamometer/data driven style of training. Being able to pull against a force meter and track your efforts is a great way to gauge progress and modify your training in a meaningful way.
